Summary:
Julianne counts the days until she can pack her bags and leave her old-money, tradition-bound Southern town where appearance is everything and secrecy is a way of life. A piano virtuoso, she dreams of attending a prestigious music school in Boston. Failure is not an option, so she enlists the help of New England Conservatory graduate Isaac Laroche to help her.

She can’t understand why he suddenly gave up Boston’s music scene to return to the South. He doesn’t know her life depends on escaping it. Julianne must face down madness from without, just as it threatens from within.

Isaac must resist an inappropriate attraction, but an indiscretion at a Mardi Gras ball-the pinnacle event for Mobile’s elite-forces their present wants and needs to collide with sins of the past.

Will Julianne accept the help she’s offered and get everything she ever wanted, or will she self-destruct and take Isaac down with her

Review:
What first pulled me to this book was two words: Mardi Gras. Now, I’m from Louisiana- the Mardi Gras capitol of the world. Granted, Mobile actually started the tradition that is Mardi Gras but New Orleans is what made it the party that it is. Of course I’ve never visited Mobile during Carnival where as I go do go to the Big Easy every year for it.

WANT starts off with a huge bang. There’s no happy filter, it’s just straight, honest, and to the point.

If you want vampires and werewolves, faeries, fallen angels or zombies, you won’t find them here. I know a real life monster. She drains the life out of me and tears at my flesh with words and fingernails that sink deeper than fangs every could. I’m not her only victim, just her favorite.

Thinking about who Juli could be talking about sends chills down your arms and of course, the further into the book you read, the more you understand what’s going on. Well, maybe not understand it, but you feel sorry for Juli. All she wants is to go to Boston, leave Mobile, and become a great pianist.

When her music teacher, Mr. Cline has stroke, he enlists the help of his newphew Issac to help Juli so she can achieve her dreams. Juli slowly uncovers that Issac has secrets in Mobile of his own.

I went back and forth with liking Juli to wanting to scream at her. Same with Issac. You root for him because he’s broken. You secretly want them together because he’s the brooding bad boy. But once the dirt is washed off and the true colors of a person are revealed, you realize that they are no better than what everyone says about them. All but one person in her life- other than her brother RJ- has abandoned her, and even he no longer is around full time, and that’s Issac’s friend Dave.

At first you think, ugh. Dave is just another typical guy only looking for one thing. Oh how wrong you are. Juli calls him her best friend and maybe, that’s the kind of guy a girl needs. Someone who, no matter what, won’t let you down. Will stand by your side when things get rough, and more importantly, stand up for you when no one else will.

WANT is a heartbreaking tale of learning to love, to let go, and to accept what life offers you. It’s not always pretty, but at the end of the road, sometimes there is a prince waiting for you. And he’ll wait for as long as you need.
