The Madman’s Daughter by @megan_shepherd
Title: The Madman’s Daughter Rating: Author: Megan Shepherd Genre: YA/Fantasy/Horror/Gothic/Mystery Publisher: Balzer + Bray Release Date: January 29, 2013 Review: This is an excellent YA retelling of The Island of Dr. Moreau. Juliet is Dr. Moreau’s sixteen-year-old daughter, and the story is told from her point of view. I found her to be a thoroughly engaging and believable character and I became quickly immersed in her story. There is a creepy gothic/horror vibe to this book that made it hard for me to put down. Be forewarned, although this is a young-adult novel, there is quite a bit of gore … Continue reading

Interview with Sherri Hayes, Author of Red Zone
Red Zone is an interesting title for this book. How did you come up with it? Red Zone is a football term. In football, the red zone is the portion of the field from the 20 yard line to the goal. This area is crucial for a team because if they fall apart in the red zone, then they will most likely leave the field with only three points instead of seven. It’s make it or break it for a team. I thought it was the perfect title for a romantic suspense novel involving a professional football player. Rebecca … Continue reading

Somewhere along the last few years, I stopped and this book is making me wonder why. Murder Takes Time is an excellent read. From the background behind Tony, Nicky, and Frankie’s lifelong friendship to trying to figure out who is behind the terrible murders, this book had me hooked. Review: Something Strange and Deadly
Title: Something Strange and Deadly Author: Susan Dennard Rating: Genre: Paranormal Historical Publisher: HarperTeen Publication Date: July 24th, 2012 Review: When I realized this book was about zombies, I freaked out. I am NOT a zombie fan. I have friends that have endlessly tried to get me to watch The Walking Dead and I will not. I have nightmares even if I THINK about watching a thriller or horror movie/show. Nothing could ever convince me to watch anything to do with zombies. Until I read Something Strange and Deadly. Something Strange and Deadly definitely keeps the reader in suspense. I … Continue reading

EVERNEATH by @BrodiAshton
Title: Everneath Rating: Author: Brodi Ashton Genre: YA/Fantasy/Sci-Fi Publisher: Balzer & Bray Release Date: January 24, 2012 Review: I have to admit, when I first found out that this story was based on the Persephone myth, I didn’t know what to think. It seemed like an intriguing premise, though, so I jumped right in, and found myself hooked from the Prologue. Ms. Ashton’s initial chilling account of Everneath, with the ‘feed’ and the Shades, left shivers running down my spine and many unanswered questions. Thankfully, we don’t have to wait long to start piecing the story together, as we begin … Continue reading
