Review: Lover Be Mine: A Legendary Lovers Novel by Nicole Jordan
Title: Lover Be Mine Author: Nicole Jordan Rating: ★★★★★ Genre: Contemporary Romance Publisher: Ballantine Books Publication Date: May 28, 2013 Review: Remember the love tragedy of Romeo and Juliette? As a reader and reviewer, this was one of my favorite Shakespearean pieces. When I read Nicole Jordan’s synopsis of “Lover Be Mine” I jumped on the chance to read this book. Normally taking my time on a book, I like to read it cover to cover and really digest it over time. Well with one I couldn’t stop! I had it read in about a day and a half, if … Continue reading

Everbound by @Brodiashton
Title: Everbound Rating: Author: Brodi Ashton Genre: YA/Fantasy/Paranormal/Romance/Mythology Publisher: Balzer + Bray Release Date: January 22, 2013 Review: I didn’t think it was possible for me to enjoy Everbound more than Everneath, the first book of this trilogy, but I did. I really, really did! Those of you who tend to shy away from trilogies, rest assured, Everbound defies that dreaded ‘middle book syndrome’. Ashton also does a formidable job of refreshing our memories about the events from book 1 without the dreaded ‘info dump’ that inevitably bogs down the first half of some books. Nikki firmly establishes herself as … Continue reading
Asunder by @jodimeadows
Title: Asunder Rating: Author: Jodi Meadows Genre: YA/Fantasy/Dystopian/Romance Publisher: Katherine Tegen Books Release Date: January 29, 2013 Review: I absolutely LOVED Incarnate, the first installment of this trilogy, so I was beyond excited for this book. It definitely didn’t disappoint. Jodi is a brilliant writer – I just really enjoy her easy-to-read style. Asunder opens where Incarnate left off. Everyone is still trying to come to terms with the aftereffects of Templedark, when many people died who will no longer be reincarnated. Many in the community still don’t trust Ana, even though she tried to warn them about what would … Continue reading
Arclight by Josin L. McQuein
Title: Arclight Rating: Genre: YA / Dystopia Release Date: April 23, 2013 Publisher: Greenwillow Books Review: I am in love with Josin McQuein. It’s no secret how much I love dystopia and that clandestine romance dates back to The Giver from my 7th grade lit class. There’s something relevant and mysterious about dystopia and I’m constantly searching for new books that do it right. Josin has that gift. Arclight was a creepy techno-thriller, paranormal fiction, and YA romance all wrapped up into one neat little package. Marina’s lack of memory allows readers to grow and learn with her and Tobin’s … Continue reading
Arcadia Burns by Kai Meyer
Title: Arcadia Burns Rating: Genre: YA / Supernatural Release Date: February 12, 2013 Publisher: Balzer + Bray Review: The the second book of the Arcadia trilogy, I was happy to see that Rosa grew up a little bit. As head of her clan, a job she never wanted, she learns to be independent and protect her own – even if that includes a Carnevare. Alessandro is just as frustratingly chivalrous as he was in the first book, but this time both Rosa and Alessandro get to keep secrets. Rosa’s plight into her own memory – the memory of that night – … Continue reading
Bewitched by Mark Harris – Blog Tour
Title: Bewitched Rating: Genre: YA / Urban Fantasy Release Date: March 1, 2013 Publisher: Inkspell Publishing Review: As you know, I’m a huge fan of anything with supernatural elements. Fairies, shapeshifts – you name it and I want to read about it. But witches aren’t something I’ve read alot about. I love that Harris provides a throwback to the Darren and Samantha of years ago by putting a new spin on an old story. Darren is a normal, teenage boy with a serious crush on a badass witch. Harris constructs an amazing world of witches – where they come from … Continue reading
Arcadia Awakens by Kai Meyer
Title: Arcadia Awakens Rating: Genre: YA / Dystopia Release Date: February 14th 2012 Publisher: Balzer + Bray Review: Kai Meyer creates a unique world right under our noses, a world in which Italian mobs control everything, and even your family can’t be trusted. The story is full of myth and intrigue and kept me focused all the way through. Why I loved this book: Arcadia Awakens is unlike anything I’ve read before. Being in a foreign place added to the mystery of the myth as a whole and gave me a new place to learn about. Rosa isn’t a shy, … Continue reading
Taken by Erin Bowman
Title: Taken Rating: Genre: YA / Dystopia Release Date: April 16th 2013 Publisher: HarperTeen Review: What do you get when Ursula K. LeGuin meets Lois Lowry, runs away with him, and has a love child? Erin Bowman’s Taken is an epic dystopian YA with elements of science fiction in a version of reality that reads all too real. The cover was enough to make me pick up the book; the first page was enough to keep me in it until it was finished. Taken does back to some of our older dystopian roots, expands on them, and creates a whirlwind … Continue reading

Unravel Me by @TaherehMafi
Title: Unravel Me Rating: Genre: YA / Dystopia Release Date: February 5, 2013 Publisher: HarperCollins Review: After reading Shatter Me, I couldn’t wait for book two. Now that I’ve read it, I can’t say that I was disappointed. Unravel Me held all of the romance as the first book, but Juliette retained her personality. As infuriating as it sometimes was to have her second guess herself over and over again, it fits with her character and the crossed out passages within the story. Without those elements, this series wouldn’t be nearly as good. I think of Omega Point the same … Continue reading

Descension by B.C. Burgess
I don’t know about you, but I grew up reading those romance books where you didn’t get to the actual romance/resolution until the last chapter. I remember screaming at the book, “YES, he loves you! Well, finally Mrs. Burgess has written the book where the guy will actually tell you how he feels. REFRESHING! In Descension, the love story between Layla’s parents and the love between Layla and Quin … Continue reading

Title: A Lion In America 1: A Whisper In The Jungle Rating: Author: Robert Mwangi Genre: Adult/Romance/Mystery Publisher: CreateSpace Release Date: April 17, 2012 Review: As someone who grew up in Guinea, West Africa, I’m always excited to read books set in this marvelous continent. The story follows James, a young soccer player who lives with his mother and brother in a small village at the base of Mount Kenya. When people start vanishing from the village, including James’ brother and girlfriend, he ventures into the jungle in an attempt to solve the mystery of their disappearance. Interview with Sherri Hayes, Author of Red Zone
Red Zone is an interesting title for this book. How did you come up with it? Red Zone is a football term. In football, the red zone is the portion of the field from the 20 yard line to the goal. This area is crucial for a team because if they fall apart in the red zone, then they will most likely leave the field with only three points instead of seven. It’s make it or break it for a team. I thought it was the perfect title for a romantic suspense novel involving a professional football player. Rebecca … Continue reading
