Since the beginning of mankind, civilizations have fallen: the Romans, the Greeks, the Aztecs…and now us. Huge earthquakes rock the world. Cities are destroyed. But something even more awful is happening: An ancient evil has been unleashed, and it’s turning everyday people into hunters, killers, and crazies.
This is the world Mason, Aries, Clementine, and Michael are living in—or rather, trying to survive. Each is fleeing unspeakable horror, from murderous chaos to brutal natural disasters, and each is traveling the same road in a world gone mad. Amid the throes of the apocalypse and clinging to love and meaning wherever it can be found, these four teens are on a journey into the heart of darkness—and to find each other and a place of safety.
Review:
This is probably the hardest review to write. I just want to tell you to read it. To stop what you are doing and pre-order or order, even find someone who has the ARC and borrow it.
DARK INSIDE has everything that you aren’t even looking for in a book. It will make you stop and think and you’ll find yourself saying no way and WTF just happened.
5 pov’s are provided throughout the story, Mason, Aries, Clementine, Michael and…Nothing.
We start with Mason. He’s pulled out of class and rushed to the hospital because his mom was in a serious car accident. As he’s waiting for his mom to come out of surgery his eyes catch a new broadcast – people have gone into his school and set off bombs leveling the school.
Aries and her friend Sara, along with Sara’s boyfriend, Colin, are riding the city bus back to school. There is a bum on the bus talking to himself and just as Aries and her friends go to get off the bus, he grabs her arm and starts a countdown. When he stops, the affect is a 9.5 earthquake ripping through the west coast. When it’s over, Aries struggles to break free and with the help of Daniel makes it to safety.
Clementine and her family are in town hall but when two of their neighbors walk in with guns, her mother urges Clementine to escape. When she runs outside the hall is surrounded by people she knows with guns. She runs.
Michael and his friend Joe witness the worst case of road rage known to man. A car bumps the back of a motorcycle sending the driver into an oncoming truck. When the police arrive they don’t take any statement and tell everyone to leave. Michael and Joe don’t understand what is going and their truck is not starting. Saved by Evans, the trio leaves the scene but not before witnessing the police officers shoot the road rage driver then turn their guns on them as they are leaving.
And finally we have Nothing. Nothing is dark and sinister and makes your skin crawl.
The aftermath of this one day event is human destruction. Friends have turned into killing machines. Parents turn on their children. No one is safe. Everyone is hunted until only the Evil resides. Houses are burnt to the ground with people trying to escape. People are hung from trees and lamp posts. Mankind as its known does not exist anymore.
They all run from the Baggers.
DARK INSIDE chronicles the days and weeks after the massive day of destruction of these people. Their struggles to stay too alive, find shelter and food. They question everything they have ever known about life and people only to not trust their own judgment. They seek safety and eventually end up in the same location help each other fight off the onslaught of Baggers trying to kill them.
They all dream of a future.
DARK INSIDE is beyond creative and amazing. Jeyn Roberts imagination is one to marvel at. She’s created this post apocalyptic world where no one is safe. Page by page you are sucked in and thrown right into the unfortunate evil that lurks inside everyone.
DARK INSIDE is available on November 1st but you definitely should pre-order today so that you can get early delivery. UK residents you don’t have to wait, DARK INSIDE is out now!
