Author: Brodi Ashton
Genre: YA/Fantasy/Sci-Fi
Publisher: Balzer & Bray
Release Date: January 24, 2012
Summary:
Last spring, Nikki Beckett vanished, sucked into an underworld known as the Everneath. Now she’s returned—to her old life, her family, her boyfriend—before she’s banished back to the underworld . . . this time forever. She has six months before the Everneath comes to claim her, six months for good-byes she can’t find the words for, six months to find redemption, if it exists.
Nikki longs to spend these precious months forgetting the Everneath and trying to reconnect with her boyfriend, Jack, the person most devastated by her disappearance—and the one person she loves more than anything. But there’s just one problem: Cole, the smoldering immortal who enticed her to the Everneath in the first place, has followed Nikki home. Cole wants to take over the throne in the underworld and is convinced Nikki is the key to making it happen. And he’ll do whatever it takes to bring her back, this time as his queen.
As Nikki’s time on the Surface draws to a close and her relationships begin slipping from her grasp, she is forced to make the hardest decision of her life: find a way to cheat fate and remain on the Surface with Jack or return to the Everneath and become Cole’s queen.
Everneath is a captivating story of love, loss, and immortality from debut author Brodi Ashton.
Review:
Have you ever been torn between the good guy and bad buy as a reader? With EVERNEATH, I am. With Brodi Aston’s first novel, she’s definitely divided the line and made both boys very appealing.
Nikki Beckett vanished last spring. She was sucked into an underworld known as Everneath by Cole – her knight and shining armor when she saw her boyfriend, Jack, cheating on her. Or did she?
Jack and Nikki have been friends forever, growing up together. Nikki’s always had a crush, but Jack – he’s a lady’s man until he hears that Nikki likes him and tells her he’s always liked her too. They give romance a try and as you well know, there is always some girl lurking in the background ready to strike – Lacey Greene.
Cole is the uber hot front man for a band, the total rocker package. His band though, anything but normal. They feed off human emotions and are able to do this during their concerts. When Nikki meets Cole, she’s interested, but very in love with Jack. Cole tastes her feelings and decides that she is what he needs to take over Everneath. Cole becomes a constant in Nikki’s life much to Jack’s disappointment.
Emotions are high for Nikki, her family is shattered after the death of her mother and when her father forgives the drunk driver that killed her, Nikki runs to Jack who just happens to be at football camp. When she is about to reach his door, Lacey is coming out in her barely there pajamas. What does Nikki do, she thinks the worse and runs to Cole asking him to take her pain away and Cole is more than happy to take her to the “Feed”.
When Nikki disappears, the town thinks she’s off on a drug binge, so her return is shocking. She wants to return to a somewhat normal life and heads back to school. Her memories are fuzzy but the one thing she does remember is her love for Jack. Needless to say, Cole is not happy and is doing to do whatever he can to make sure Nikki returns to him so he can become king.
There is so much packed into EVERNEATH you won’t want to put it down. Ashton is brilliant in the set-up as the story alternates between before the “feed” and after. You will find yourself sucked into EVERNEATH and screaming at the end.
