Today we interview Melissa Bourbon Ramirez, author of Sacrifice of Passion and Bare Naked Lola!
Thanks for hosting me today at The Readiacs!
What inspired you to write Sacrifice of Passion?
It all started with the Mexican legends I learned being married to my husband. The story of La Llorona (which is the premise for the second book in the series, Curse of Passion) was told around campfires. It’s haunting, and the perfect concept for a suspense novel.
I decided Sacrifice of Passion needed to come first and the story of the Chupacabra (urban legend) was another great, creepy element that was perfect for the story. It all came together and is one of my favorite books!
I’ve always believed a chupacabra was an animal, how did you come up with the idea to make it a man?
Chupacabra is an ‘animal’, but I didn’t want to make the book paranormal and I had the reasons why the killings were happening, and who was behind them. I really wanted to tie them into the legends and Chupacabra fit!
Any thoughts on continuing the characters of Delaney and Vic in a different setting?
Vic has a bit role in the second book, Curse of Passion. It’s his brother Ray’s story, but other than that, Vic and Delaney’s stories are complete!
How hard was it to kill off a character?
Very hard! But the sacrifice had to happen to really make the story work as a whole.
Was there any particular scene/chapter that was your favorite to write?
I loved the sleepwalking scenes. The first sex scene between Vic and Delaney, in my opinion, is very steamy and was super fun to write!
Which books are you reading right now?
I’m reading Molly Cannon’s Ain’t Misbehavin’, a brand new contemporary romance, and I love it!
What’s next on the agenda?
I have a COVET coming out (Entangled’s new category paranormal romance line) on July 15th! It’s called Deceiving the Witch Next Door and is another favorite of mine! It takes place in a small town in Texas, is charming, and sexy!
Tell us one thing about Misa that we won’t be able to find on the Internet?
Hmmm, good question! Not that it’s very interesting, but I’ve never been to Las Vegas and am going in just a few weeks!
Thank you again for having me today!
About Sacrifice of Passion
Texas rancher, Vic Vargas, finds himself facing more than his stubbornly silent son when the chupacabra, a supposedly mythical blood‐sucking beast, starts killing his livestock—and stalking Delaney West, the town’s newly returned veterinary assistant, the sensual woman who ran from the altar and broke his heart twelve years earlier.
Reluctantly, he seeks her help to get to the bottom of the disturbing animal mutilations, only to have her break through to his sullen son…and rekindle the love he’d thought was lost forever. But her refusal to share a terrible secret sends her running straight into the lair of the chupacabra, plunging her back into her worst nightmare, and forcing them both to confront the wrongs of the past—in order to stay alive for the future they desperately want.

Going undercover is second nature for Private Investigator Lola Cruz, but she’s out of her league when the case of a murdered Royals Courtside Dancer leads her to a local nudist resort. Parading around the sidelines of Sacramento’s professional basketball scene in a barely-there cheerleading outfit is one thing—but parading around in nothing but smile? If she has any chance of hiding this from her traditional family and on-again/off-again boyfriend Jack, she’s going to have a lot more than her duct tape bra and killer dance moves to keep under wraps….
