Today, Heidi has kindly allowed me to take over her blog to talk a little bit about music that might have inspired me or that might be relevant to my characters. Amaretto Flame is the book, and it’s the first in the Eagleton Coven series. It centers on a young witch who makes a mistake and is banished from her home, forced to spend the summer as a normal human. There, she meets Jackson Vance *eyebrow waggle* and realizes just how much she doesn’t know – about humans, sexy musicians, and being hunted.
I haven’t made a playlist for Amaretto Flame, but there are definitely some important songs I listened to while writing it. Evanescence played a huge roll for me because the music is dark but beautiful, which is what I consider the story. It’s dark and sad, but there are massive moments of love and triumph as well.
I also listened to the Goo Goo Dolls, specifically ‘Name’ and ‘Let Love In,’ which are beautiful (if old) songs that I think perfectly describe the vulnerability and tension between Jackson and Olivia. “And even though the moment passed me by, I still can’t turn away…” Amazing song!
Other artists that I listened to while writing the story include Ray LaMontagne, Paolo Nutini, and Matchbox 20. With those guys in mind, I’ll leave a few beautiful lines in parting:
“There may come a time, you just can’t seem to find your place…” – Ray LaMontagne
“It was in love I was created and in love is how I hope I die.” – Paolo Nutini
“It’s me; yeah, well I can’t get myself to go away…” – Matchbox 20

I love Evanescence aswell.
Have to check out the other music you mentioned.
Ever done a playlist for your book? When I first heard some authors do it, I adapted the idea right away.
