Review:
Partials by Dan Wells is a unique, and yet almost scary, take on post apocalyptic America. All dystopian fans will devour Partials and sitting on edge waiting for the sequel.
Ever since the virus RM has knocked out most of the population, the “new” Senators have enacted the Hope Act, mandating that all women at the age of eighteen get pregnant. The only problem is that babies are born with RM and die within days and doctors who have been trying to save the newborns have yet to do so.
When the Senate starts to talk about lowering the age of the Hope Act, The Voice, a resistance group starts attacking the perimeter of the city, even going as far to kidnap the only young child left. Between the Voice and their violence and the threat of Partials attacking, the Senate is more determined to protects its people and restart the population.
So when Kira Walker, a med-tech working in the maternity ward, finds out her sister, Madison, is pregnant she vows to find a cure to save the baby. There’s just one small problem, she needs a blood sample from a Partial, an unthinking, unfeeling, inhuman killer that was created by scientist to fight in a war, part human, part machine.
Kira enlists Madison’s husband, Haru and her brother, Jayden to help her leave Long Island and cross into Manhattan to find a Partial. Not only is this extremely dangerous, it is against the law. No one is allowed to leave the Island, ever.
Samm is a Partial looking to find a human to help him and his people. It seems that they expire after twenty years and they’d like to stay around just a little longer. So when Kira and crew come into Manhattan, they see their opportunity.
What ensues is pure chaos, suspense and many eye opening moments for both Kira and Samm! Loyalties are tested and lines are drawn. Question is, who will be the first to make a move.
