The last time she did, it was an accident, but The Reestablishment locked her up for murder. No one knows why Juliette’s touch is fatal. As long as she doesn’t hurt anyone else, no one really cares. The world is too busy crumbling to pieces to pay attention to a 17-year-old girl. Diseases are destroying the population, food is hard to find, birds don’t fly anymore, and the clouds are the wrong color.
The Reestablishment said their way was the only way to fix things, so they threw Juliette in a cell. Now so many people are dead that the survivors are whispering war– and The Reestablishment has changed its mind. Maybe Juliette is more than a tortured soul stuffed into a poisonous body. Maybe she’s exactly what they need right now.

Juliette has to make a choice: Be a weapon. Or be a warrior.

Review:

SHATTER ME by Tahereh Mafi has everything you are looking for.  It’s addictive and intense; a juicy love story and imminent danger looming around every corner.  This hot dystopian novel is an absolute must read.

Juliette hasn’t touched anyone in exactly 264 days. The last time she did, she killed a boy. This is how she ended up in the insane asylum. Diseases are destroying the population, food is hard to find and everyone must live by the law of the Reestablishment.  Juliette dreams of the time when she was free, free as a bird, but even birds don’t exist in the sky anymore.

All Juliette wants to do is feel human again, just to feel something.  She’s alone with no family, locked in a cell with no contact, until she is given a roommate for good behavior.  The only problem is that her roommate is a boy . . . a boy she knows from her life.  The only problem is that Adam doesn’t remember her and it is breaking her heart.

Adam is sent to learn about Juliette for his boss, Warner. Warner wants her and her deadly secret by his side as he takes over the country.  Warner arranges for Juliette’s release but she’s not happy about it, she’d rather stay locked up and away from the world then be his killing machine.  All she really wants is to live a life of happiness and solitude, if that even exist in her world.

Mafi is a masterful story teller.  Her words will keep your fingers turning the pages until you reach the end.  Guaranteed you won’t want to put SHATTER ME down.  The character of Juliette is lovable and you can’t help but feel sorry for the crappy cards she’s been dealt.  Adam will have your heart melting with sweet words and perfect timing.  Warner is just so evil you can’t help but like him.
