In love with Naturally, Charlie by @slscottauthor
So, let me tell you about Naturally, Charlie. Or rather, let me tell you my initial thoughts when I started reading it. In Chapter One, I had proclaimed Charlie B as my new best friend. Likeable, funny and sensitive, I wanted to include her on my morning coffee run and sip cocktails with her in Greenwich Village at night. In Chapter Two, I had a schoolgirl crush on Charlie A. Witty, strong-willed and as delicious as hot cakes, I wanted to be the girl he confided in while giggling uncontrollable at his charm and humour. By Chapter Six I was … Continue reading
Night of the Purple Moon by Scott Cramer (@cramer_scott)
If I had to choose five words to describe this book, they would be intelligent, innocent, mature, poignant and engaging. Night of the Purple Moon tells the story of a group of pre-pubescent kids who are left parentless after a deadly comet passes through Earth. For months everyone has been looking forward to seeing the comet pass through and Abby Leigh and her family are no exception. They’ve talked about it at school and over dinner and so finally, when the night arrives, everyone takes their ringside seats to witness the experience. Little do they know that with such beauty … Continue reading
After Ever by Jillian Eaton
After Ever starts as a fresh and feisty novel that caught my attention from the get-go. Winnie, the protagonist, has a sharp tongue and an even sharper inner monologue that sets her apart from the other, somewhat generic female leads and this is what made this story interesting. Her dislike for her dad’s girlfriend brought some humour to what, essentially, were pretty dire circumstances. Girlfriend #3 is a bad excuse for a step mother and it’s Winnie that plays guardian to her little brother, Brian. When her dad takes the family off for a winter holiday, Winnie can think of … Continue reading
The Emerald Isle by @kate_hinderer
In a genre that is wildly saturated with vampires, werewolves, zombies and dystopian hierarchies that make armys out of their offspring and/or send them to fight for survival; I am always on the lookout for something different to keep my imagination entertained. And so I was relieved to find that Emerald Isle by Kate Hinderer is about a different race of mythological creatures. Welcome to the world of the Mermaids. Or, Mermen to be precise. Two of them. And they are both vying for the attention of our protagonist, Audyn. Audyn is working on Fascination Island – a high brow … Continue reading
Easy by @tammarawebber
Heidi’s Review: There is just something about a man who saves the day . . . or your life. For Jacqueline that night happened two weeks after her d.bag boyfriend dumped her. We all know college is a chance to spread your wings, learn to fly and all that happy jazz, but when your high school girlfriend tells you she’s following you to college, you break-up than, not during the semester because you want to test the waters from the nearby sorority. Yeah, that is exactly what Jacqueline’s boyfriend did . . . good riddance. Back to the knight and … Continue reading
When You Were Mine by @RebeccaASerle
Title: When You Were Mine Author: Rebecca Serle Publisher: Simon & Schuster Published: Out Now Review: Everyone knows the story of Romeo and Juliet. They meet, they fall in love, their families are rivals, and it all ends in tragedy. But how many of us know that before Juliet, there was another love interest on Romeo’s radar? In fact, it was Rosaline who our hero was madly in love with and he was only at that party to catch a glimpse of her and not Juliet. And it is that aspect of the famous Shakespearean tragedy that When You Were … Continue reading

Before I Breathe by Jenelle Jack Pierre
Rating: Title: Before I Breathe Author: Jenelle Jack Pierre Genre: YA/Coming of Age/Drama Available: Out Now Review: In an age where the Supernatural genre is popular amongst YA books, I was looking for something more grounded to read, something that brought the reader back to basics with reality. Something that didn’t let me have a bit of escapism for a couple of hours. I have to say that Before I Breathe is exactly that – it’s a book about real life situations happening to teenagers across the world, and it’s a story about how one teenager chooses to deal with … Continue reading
This or That: Nate & Adam from Don’t Let Me Go
Adam and Nate – the two main protagonists in the brilliant Don’t Let Me Go kindly gave us an insight into their persona’s with their This or That’s: Caffeine or Decaf – Definitely caffeine for the both of us. Daytime or Night-time – Any time Fried eggs or Sunny Side up – Loose, runny yolks? No way. Fried. Sky or Scuba diving – We’re not particularly thrill seekers, but Key West is a special place for us, so scuba diving. Facebook or Twitter – Facebook, because 140 characters just isn’t enough. DC or Marvel – DC as in Washington, and … Continue reading
Author Interview with @JHTrumble
Today, we spend 10 minutes with J.H Trumble, author of Don’t Let Me Go. (There may be a couple of plot reveals in this interview, so be warned if you haven’t read the book yet!) What was the inspiration behind Don’t Let Me Go? I can’t say there was any one inspiration for the novel. I just knew I wanted to write about two young gay men who were not in the least angsty about their sexuality or particularly flagrant about it either. They were just the boys next door who fell in love and felt the need to … Continue reading

Today, we sit down with Kelley York, author of HUSHED – an amazing YA thriller and unconventional romance. Within young adult, Kelley enjoys writing and reading a variety of genres from contemporary with a unique twist, psychological thrillers, paranormal/urban fantasy and horror. She loves stories where character development takes center stage. What inspired you to write Hushed? Archer. I love writing broken, damaged characters. HUSHED was my second book, and in my first, I hadn’t gotten to write anyone who was really, really damaged. I had several other ideas/works in progress going at the time, and abandoned them all to dive into HUSHED once … Continue reading
