Review:
I really wanted to like this book, but I have to say that it was just ‘okay’. The vampire / human romance angle has just been done to death, in my opinion, and even though this book pokes fun at a lot of those stereotypes, most of the parodies just fell flat.
Unfortunately, I didn’t like any of the characters very much, and couldn’t really relate to them. Including zombies in the plot seemed like an afterthought aimed at capitalizing on the current zombie ‘craze’ brought about by the popularity of The Walking Dead.
I will say that it’s pretty well written and a fast read. If you’re not completely sick of vampire novels by now, you might like this one.
Synopsis:
When a vampire shows up at Mel’s high school, it’s up to Mel to keep her best friend from falling in love with him. Add a mysterious disappearance, a cranky vampire cop, a number of unlikely romantic entanglements, and the occasional zombie and soon Mel is hip-deep in an adventure that is equal parts hilarious and poignant.
